Students at Mount Saint Michael's participate in a wide variety of educational activities, e.g.. Debating, Public Speaking, Quizzes, Young Scientists Competitions, Fish Cookery activities, Art Competitions, Gaisce and other subject related projects and have enjoyed many successes down through the years.
Students are encouraged to become involved in voluntary, social and charitable works so there are fund raising efforts on an on-going basis for various charities as well as visitation of the old and ill.
The participating students benefit personally, socially and educationally from these activities and their involvement greatly enriches the life of the school.
Educational Outings are organised as part of the curriculum. Such outings include exploration of the local area: visits to an Exhibition Centre, local industries, historical sites, geography field work and other subject related activities. All such activities are supervised by members of the teaching staff.
A tour of a European City is organised for students
if they so wish. The experience of travelling abroad is both an
educational and enjoyable venture.
School Exchange may also be arranged and there are strong links
with European member schools through the European Studies and
Comenius Programmes.
Music students are given the opportunity to develop their musical talents as part of their overall Education. Individual music lessons are available in a variety of musical instruments and can be arranged with the music teacher concerned. A number of pianos are available in the school on which students may practise.
The School Orchestra is prepared for the Department of Education Examinations. Membership of the orchestra is open to all students. Students attend Recitals in the school organised by the Music Association of Ireland where they have the opportunity to see professional musicians perform. The annual School Musical is an important feature of the educational development of the students.
Cultural Activities are organised from time to time during the school year. These include visits and workshops by Daghda Dance Co., outings to the Theatre, Art exhibitions and Enterprise exhibitions.
Young Pioneer Total Abstinence Association of the Sacred Heart. Students are encouraged to become involved in Readoiri, Quizzes and Essay Competitions at Senior and Junior levels. Senior students from the school's young P.T.A.A. working council and new members may enroll any school day.
Substance Abuse Prevention Programme is facilitated by specially trained teachers, as part of Social, Personal and Health Education.
Other Activities: Students take part in Debates, Public Speaking, Charities, Gaisce Awards, School Musical and other extra curricular activities.
