In
Mount Saint Michael an extensive extra-curricular programme complements
the P.E. programme. At lunch-time and after school, teams are
trained and coached in preparation for inter-school competition.
The school is represented in badminton, basketball, cross-country running, football, hockey, soccer, swimming and volleyball. Although success can be measured by the large numbers participating in sport, it is rewarding also to see success in the trophy cabinet!
Mount St. Michael have won Country titles in basketball, and Provincial and All-Ireland titles in swimming and volleyball. We are also very proud of the students who have achieved the highest honour in their individual sports - that of representing the country. In 1999, Kate Hanrahan played on the Irish Senior Women's Volleyball Team and Áine Mullahy was on the Junior National Volleyball Team. Denise Breslin and Louise McLoughlin were members of the Youth Olympics Swimming Team. Niamh Cawley continued to justify her selection on Team 2000, the Irish short list of swimmers for the Sydney Olympics, and Sandra Duggan played on the Irish U-16 Basketball Team.
