Basketball

Basketball in Mount St. Michael has been a popuar sport for many years.  Each year students compete in the Basketball Ireland Schools' League competition at senior (U-19), Cadette (U-16) and Junior (1st & 2nd year)levels.  The U-19 and U-16 league competitions run from September to December while the 1st and 2nd years leagues run from January to May.

In previous years the 1st year team won the Western Regional Final, Div.C and qualified for the All Ireland play - offs in Tipperary.  In addition, both the 1st and 2nd year teams won the regional finals and competed in the All Ireland play - offs.

As a result of these successes, the school was promoted to Div. B where we now compete against such schools as Gortnor Abbey, Crossmolina,  St. Mary's Secondary School, Ballina and Jesus and Mary Secondary School, Salerno ,Galway.

The Basketball training season commences in September for all teams. There are weekly training sessions during lunchtimes and after school in the school gym. These sessions cater for all levels of ability from beginners to the more experienced.  Playing school basketball is a great way to build friendships, maintain a good level of fitness and take a well- deserved break from academic study.
