At Mount St. Michael, our aim is to provide an atmosphere that supports our students' social, emotional and physical wellbeing. It is at the heart of the school’s mission statement.

All students have a right to feel cared for and to have their wellbeing supported in our school. Using The Framework for Junior Cycle, and in particular focusing on the Wellbeing Indicators, we build on substantial work already taking place in our school. Our students engage in meaningful learning which in turn helps them to be connected, aware, resilient, responsible, active and respected learners.

Indicators of Wellbeing

A dedicated wellbeing programme in junior cycle aims to ensure that all students engage in important learning about wellbeing through key curriculum areas. The wellbeing programme consists of:

  • Social, Personal and Health Education (SPHE)
  • Civic, Social and Political Education (CSPE)
  • Physical Education (PE)
  • Guidance Education
  • Additional areas of learning such as Digital Safety, Friends for Life etc.

The junior cycle wellbeing programme is:

  • 400 hours of time-tabled learning for all students
  • designed to meet the identified needs of students
  • supported by a range of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities

In senior cycle students build on their prior learning and experiences. Senior cycle wellbeing focuses on supporting learners to make informed choices for health and wellbeing now and in the future. We focus on what is important for learners in senior cycle to know, understand and be able to do in order to make and maintain healthy lifestyle decisions.

In addition to wellbeing within the curriculum, we offer many other opportunities for our students to focus and work on their wellbeing. Our Wellbeing Coordinator works with our Wellbeing Team of teachers and students to promote and coordinate wellbeing events throughout the year.
